Tantric Sex Positions
Although there is no specific ‘goal’ in tantric sex, the Trantric practitioners, called Tantrikas, seek a higher level of consciousness which can occur during Tantric, or spiritual sex. For the Tantrika, sex is a joining of the male and female consciousness and polarities into the perfect union - not just to reach orgasm and stop. Tantric sex is all about controlling the orgasmic energy and letting it become a channel to reach spiritual ecstasy.
Although Trantra is a complete philosophy for living, much of the current interest in Tantra is based on the sexual aspects, contained in the Kama Sutra, a 7th century Sanskrit sex manual. In it, many different positions are recommend for Tantric sex. What is different about the Kama Sutra as a sex manual, is the positions are representative and unlike Western sex, nothing is rushed. Tantric sex is all about doing less and feeling more. The focus is extending lovemaking and giving pleasure so that both partners benefit.
One of the main precepts of Tantric sex is maintaining eye contact with your partner during the entire experience, in order share emotionally as well as physically. Some of the sexual positions described in the Kama Sutra will take some practice, others will be immediately enjoyable. Either way, the enjoyment of the path, not the destination is most important.
The Flower in Bloom
The Upthallaka is one of the lying down positions taught by the Kama Sutra. It’s a position enjoyed by small women. It’s not an easy position to follow, but there is a great deal of enjoyment in the practicing. The woman lies on her back and first brings her knees up to where they touch her breasts. She then uses her feet to caress the man’s armpits. Placing her hands under her buttocks, she lifts her hips and at the same times spreads her thighs far apart. Her feet are moved beside her hips while the male partner caresses her breasts. This moving upward at the same time opening up to the male is like the blooming of a flower.
The Jewel Case
The Samputa, or Jewel Case or similar related group of Kama Sutra positions is particularly effective if the man has a small penis. The man may either stretch himself on top of the woman or they may lie side by side. If they lie side by side, the woman should always remain on the left side of the man. The legs are placed in contact from thighs to toes. To put some additional spice into this position, interlace your legs with your partners and rhythmically squeeze in a pulsating movement. This position is known as the Squeeze.
The Tripod
This is one of the standing positions. The man stands against or near a wall for support and grasps one of the woman’s knees and holds it up so she is standing on one foot, her hands are free for caressing and touching the man while he is making love to her. This is known as Tripadam and the supported positions as a group are called Sthita or Steadied positions.
