THE REAL TANTRA by ROBBY HOLLY
Part 2 - PREPARATION
To understand the real Tantra, and get the most out of any kind of meaningful introduction to it, the purpose for it would be helpful. This story may help paint a picture.
Picture a courtyard of an affluent Indian family, maybe even a royal family, in a time hundreds or even thousands of years before Christianity began. Servants worked busily around the grounds of the huge home, ( picture castle size ), where the oldest son was being educated at home by one of the many highly educated scholars that were on staff. He was entering puberty, and was unhappy with his world and wanted a different experience. He saw other young men who had many liberties and freedoms that he, as the first born son of a lord, did not even have!
He was kept at home being strictly tutored by the finest scientists and holy men in the country, but also was being groomed in the fine arts of love by one of the wisest woman in the land. Although employed by the lord of the huge family, she was also a very sought after consort, entertaining the crème of the royal elite of the country.
In a petulant mood one day, the young lord to be, who would one day unbeknownst to him at this time become a great holy man and teacher, was seeking the wisdom of the friendly sage who had been guiding him through the tumultuous times of the transition into manhood.
To answer some of his questions the wise sage told his young charge a story from ancient texts called the Bhagavad Gita, of a well known warrior leader who had become a legendary figure in a time in their history when, even family members fought against each other in bitter, bloody battles over turf and power.
The story he told him was about the trials this young leader, not that much older than this lad, as he was thrust, as leader, to the front of a warring group ready to strike in retaliation, a rebel faction headed by his cousins, whom he had been close boyhood friends with.
He had been become leader, not only because of his royal lineage (similar to this one's) but also because of his powerful mind, perception, and spiritual awareness. In these times these were a huge advantage as most daily decisions were made with the assistance and guidance of a battery of prophets, priests, and holy men. To have a leader who was as wise in their ways as he was, became a huge advantage in the tactics of war with the necessary alliances and strategies it brought.
This young leader knew what his duty was, and the terrible retribution he was expected to deliver against the army of his cousin. The vast collection of allied forces that had gathered with him on the battlefield that day knew of his struggles, and were unsure of what he would do.
This story that this young man's teacher told him was the conversation and heartache that the warrior/king had with his advisors and God, as he stepped into one of the most famous battles of their era. He really wanted to abdicate responsibility for the decisions that day – to attack or not. He was faced with probable death for his boyhood friend, his cousin. If he did not do what was expected, the many tribes that had grouped together his support, and the huge advantage they represented, may be lost. Their further support in coalescing the many independent tribes efforts would go a long way towards unifying their country, and solidify his political future.
He was an extremely sensitive and reverent, young man, though, and the brutality of what seemed only his to do brought him into serious contention with his God.
The attack was eminent. He and his advisors knew it. They had no choice, and they did attack and vanquish their opponents.
His decisions that day shaped that country, his life, and many years of peace that ensued after. The moral, spiritual, and political issues were wisely faced with almost no experience, but with similar training that his teacher now brought this lad, handed down from elders and teachers for years.
Much of the story the teacher told his student centered on how this young leader used his powerful mind, with the psychic and telepathic abilities he had cultivated, and his ability to communicate with God and then reach the hearts of friend and foe with astounding clarity.
He had been able to collect the presence and courage, as a young man leading thousands into battle, face almost paralyzing fear and doubt, reach within for courage and prayer, and realize who he was and what he must do.
In that sobering context, this young man, realizing his destiny in a moment, gave up his juvenile complaints and settled into his lessons that would prepare him for the world he was being groomed for.
Tantra is about such preparation.
Preparing each of us for being the maximal person we were born to be. Whatever we will be, large or small, is up to us to accept or reject. In our own world we do not bring favor to our situation by shrinking from what is ours to face.
Sex is the most basic energy, and permeates every cell of every being. It is in everything we are. It is the beginning of so much, yet we have such neurosis and frustration with it. Our society struggles so much because we are not prepared for the immense sensitivity and deep awareness needed to fully accept our own potential relationships with each other.
Often our relationships do not get to the “optimum” level of intimacy and honesty because we do not relate from an authentic place of knowing or meeting our own needs. Struggling with ineffective communication, and expectations that do not satisfy us, can keep us from exploring the higher, more soulful purposes of our lives.
Most of modern society with its quickly changing roles for us to adjust to, has men and women confused, relying on ego-driven methods of communicating and unwilling to trust the validity of the unconscious relationships they find themselves in. Without deeper purpose or spiritual values, many settle for the easier choices that do not conflict with our worst fears.
Too much importance is given to good looks, stamina, arousal techniques and the more basic or physical aspects of sex, instead of opening to our deeper heart and soul's desires.
The purpose of Tantra, and Tantric sex, is as a vehicle to an expanded awareness of everyday consciousness and a path to enlightenment, bringing a sense of sacred healing to all our relationships. By becoming more aware of a higher purpose in our relationships, we can deepen our relationship with ourselves, and let go of any shame or guilt.
Let's face it, if I do not trust me and love me, I am unlikely to let you.
Tantra's focus is less on technique and more on loving presence. Being more loving and doing less. Playing more – like innocent children, cultivating joy in simple ness, unrehearsed but mindful. Dancing in the shadows, as well as the light; and, by watching the dancer, remembering our inner tunes, we are choosing freedom.
Accepting the disowned, shadow parts of us, allow for the exploration of past wounds in the presence of a loving partner. A willingness to let go of our need to be right about the past can put us on the fast track to happy, as well. Would you rather be right, or happy? It is a choice you make.
By having a more intimate relationship with myself, I am more authentic and therefore present - for the beginning, as well as the end.
I am completely prepared for love by cultivating compassion with myself, in every moment.
Transcendental spiritual awakening through blissful sexual union is possible if one is willing and prepared.
